Karen was special from her earliest moments. With a flair for the dramatic, Karen liked to include everyone she met in her make-believe world that was inspired by soap operas and 1960s-era black-and-white 'monster movies'. Her favorite band was KISS and meeting Gene Simmons in person was a highlight of her short life. Karen had a gift for conversation, even with total strangers, and a talent for mimicking accents which is common for those afflicted with the genetic abnormality now recognized as Williams Syndrome. After graduating from St. Michael Special School, Karen and her parents followed her siblings to Texas where she spent many days enjoying music, dancing, swimming, songbirds and consuming her favorite desserts. She had a wicked sense of humor and a hearty laugh. She seemed to understand whenever someone around her needed a kind word or a reassuring hug.
