Andrea came into this world as a full term baby but low birth weight. Her loving parents did not know she had a chromosome missing and had Williams Syndrome until she was nearly 40 years old!
"Special Needs" was how she was identified. But our family of 6 was a circle of love for Ms Andi. She graduated from Hopkins High School to a standing ovation when she was handed her diploma. She worked at Daytons, Target, and did volunteer work at a nursing home. She traveled all over the world and helped care for our mother as she aged and needed extra help.
From her sister Carol: Andrea loved WWE wrestling, Rock and Roll bands, Dancing and animals. Especially cats. And she was very chatty and said some very funny things. One day, I was leading her into her day center and she was pouting about it. I tried to tease her out of it by saying "Do they beat you with a stick?" Andi replied "Sometimes they do and sometimes I have to do it myself" Then she proceeded to have a great day.
As Andrea aged, she lost a lot of abilities, but amazed her doctors by showing no signs of heart problems. Dementia became a significant problem around age 65. I reached out to the Williams Syndrome Association when I knew end of life was near to see if research on that strong heart of hers would be useful. The response was immediate and positive. Andi would be proud, my parents would be proud that she might help future children with WS
