HOTELS IN BUFFALO

As attendance at our biennial conventions increases, so does our need for meeting space and sleeping rooms. This year, the WSA has secured room blocks at multiple hotels, most of which are less than .5 miles from the Buffalo Convention Center. If you've never attended a convention before, you may not know that the "host hotel" lobby has historically been THE place for adults with WS to hang out in the evenings. In Buffalo, there is no true "host hotel" - and all of the hotel lobbies are actually very small. The Buffalo Convention Center will be the host of the majority of the activities for the 2026 Convention, including the evening activities. Instead of a hotel lobby being a gathering place for individuals with WS to hang out in the evenings, there will be a WSA Social Club Lounge at the Convention Center, where individuals with WS 18 and older can hang out in the evenings. The lounge will provide a place to socialize, as well as activities, music, and other fun. We'll share more information about location and hours of the lounge as we get closer to July. 

The only programs that will be hosted in a hotel will be the Infant, Toddler, and School-Age programs. Those programs will be at the Hyatt Regency, which has a walkway over to the convention center. Please note that you do NOT need to stay at the Hyatt to have your child participate in those day care programs. It will be easy to drop your child off for their program (and grab breakfast while you're there), then head over to the convention center for parent/caregiver programming at the Buffalo Convention Center.

UPDATES ON HOTELS

We’re blown away by the excitement around the 2026 Convention! Though we have MANY more rooms in our hotel room block than we’ve had in the past, those rooms are currently fully booked. 

A little backstory... when Buffalo was selected as the location for the 2026 Convention back in 2023, the Hyatt Regency was set to undergo renovations, which should have been completed in 2025. Due to reasons beyond our control, those renovations have not happened, and over 60 sleeping rooms per night had to be removed from our room block late last year. Because of that late notice, it has been difficult for us to add rooms to the blocks we already had at some of the surrounding hotels, and to get new room blocks at other hotels. Hotels are only able to provide a limited number of rooms at discounted rates to groups, and unfortunately, that has limited the amount of room blocks we've been able to attain.  

We're continuing to try to add additional rooms to the room blocks we have, and have added some blocks at hotels in areas outside the downtown area. Please consider booking at one of those hotels if you're driving in, or using tips listed in the bullets below if you're still looking for a room. 

TIPS FOR BOOKING A ROOM (AND TO HELP ENSURE EVERYONE CAN GET A ROOM)

  • If you are on the waitlist and haven't heard from us yet, we're working through the list in the order in which the requests have been received. We'll reach out as soon as possible. Please know registration rates will not increase for you if you're waiting to register until you have a confirmed hotel room. You can also helping us out by following the steps below to try to find a room. 
  • If you booked more rooms than you need, please consider cancelling the reservations you don’t need to allow other families to make their reservations. 
  • If you reserved rooms at multiple hotels, please consider cancelling the reservations you don’t need to allow other families to make their reservations. 
  • Please use the online links listed below to make your reservations. The front desk will not be able to give you additional information, and in some cases, our room blocks contain rooms that the front desk doesn’t even have access to viewing. 
  • If a block at a hotel shows sold out, try another hotel. As families change plans or cancel extra rooms, some rooms may become available.
  • Unless someone cancels a room in our room blocks, it is highly unlikely we will be able to make any addition rooms available in our blocks. Please use the "Booking a Room Outside of our Room Blocks" information below to search for a room outside of our block.

If you're unable to find an available room within our blocks, consider using a booking engine such as hotels.com, expedia.com, trivago.com, travelocity.com, costco.com, a travel agent, or any other travel booking website. Though we're unable to add additional rooms to our blocks, or we're unable to secure a room block at some hotels, that does not mean there aren't rooms available. You could also consider looking at VRBO.com or airbnb.com.
